I want to remote control a DOS-only computer. I am using a newer version of LapLink. I think I have successfully configured the DOS machine, except that I get a message about Remote Computer Not Available, or it just stops with the message Reading Services when I try to connect. What is wrong?

Solution
Starting with LapLink for Windows 95, version 7.5, all versions of LapLink encrypts the
communications coming from the Windows computer. The TSRs that were loaded onto the DOS computer do
not understand this encryption. To allow the computers to connect, the encryption must be turned
off. Here's the steps: On the Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium or Windows NT computer:
- From the
Windows Start menu click
Run.
- Type
Notepad and click
OK.
- From the
File menu, click
Open.
- Browse to
c:\windows\tsi32\llw and open
LLW.INI.
- Add the following lines, exactly as below:
- [Communication Options] EncryptData=No EncryptPassword=No
- Save the changes and exit from Notepad
- Restart LapLink and retry the connection.
Note: If the connection continues to fail, there could be problems with the
communications link created by the modems. See
Technical Document 122: Error Message: Remote
Computer Not Available or Reading Services... when Connecting over a Modem for additional
assistance.
