When I connect to another machine with LapLink V/DOS I get a dialog box with this message. It prompts me to make the change to correct the difference. Is it really necessary to correct the time?

Cause

As the message indicates, the system time on the two PC's you are attempting to connect is different. You will want to make the times the same, so files created on the two machines will have comparable times. This is important when you are making copies using the Copy Newer Files Only copy option or when you are using the Synchronize command.

Solution

Disclaimer: LapLink V/DOS does not support hard drives larger than 4 Gigs, and it may incorrectly report free space on the drive if it is more than 2Gigs. Additionally, LapLink V/DOS is not Y2K compliant, and may exhibit errors sorting files with dates after January 1, 2000. LapLink V/DOS does not support long file names (files that do not use the standard 8.3 file name) and will truncate long file names. LapLink V/DOS can not be used on computers that use NTFS.

LapLink will adjust the time on the computer you chose to correct. Some computers require you to run a setup program to permanently alter the clock. If this is the case on the computer you altered, the time change may not be stored when you turn off your PC. Note: You should always ask or inform remote users when you change their system clocks, for example when you've connected via a modem or network. In most cases, you should not change the clock of a PC in another time zone.
