I have been directed to use Device Manager as part of solving a problem using LapLink or PCsync. How do I find Device Manager?

Solution

Select the appropriate version of Windows: Windows 95, 98 or Millennium Windows 2000 and XP WIndows Vista Note: Windows NT does not have a Device Manager. For computers running Windows 95, 98 or Millennium

  1. Right-click My Computer, and click Properties.
  2. Click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Click View Devices by type.
  4. To see a list of devices in any category, click the + sign to expand.
For computers running Windows 2000 and XP
  1. Right-click My Computer, and click Manage. NOTE: You may need to click on Start and find the My Computer icon on the right side of the Start Menu.
  2. Click Device Manager in the left pane.
  3. To see a list of devices in any category, click the plus sign (+) to expand that category.
Note: If you don't see the My Computer icon and you are running Win XP, Please do the following:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel
  • Click the link on the left for 'Classic View'
  • Open the System Icon
  • On the Hardware Tab, click the Device Manager button
For computers running Windows Vista
  1. Click on Start button to display the Windows Start Menu.
  2. Right-click Computer on the right side of the Windows Start Menu, and click Manage.
  3. If prompted, click Continue on the User Account Control window.
  4. Click Device Manager in the left pane.
  5. To see a list of devices in any category, click the plus sign (+) to expand that category.
