BELLEVUE, Wash. – June 2, 2010 – Laplink Software, Inc. has released a revolutionary new piece of software capable of restoring a disk image or the contents of an actual hard drive to a computer running a different operating system, without overwriting anything on the new PC.
PCmover® Image Assistant™ solves the problem of how to deal with old images and hard drives when a PC has crashed and eliminates a significant gap in the functionality of current disk imaging technology.
"The idea that you can always restore an image is misleading,” said Laplink CEO Thomas Koll. “Current disk imaging technology limits restoration so the user is stuck with their existing operating system. Users cannot take that image and restore it to a new PC. They’re trapped – until now that is. Laplink is changing everything."
Imaging products on the market today are only able to restore an entire image including the operating system. That means using current imaging software to restore an image of a Windows XP or Vista PC to a computer running Windows 7 will wipe out everything, including Windows 7. PCmover Image Assistant solves this problem. It is designed to work with most imaging software to allow any image to be restored to a PC with a different operating system without overwriting anything, using a process called Operating System Independent Restore.
Another key feature of PCmover Image Assistant is the ability to restore directly from an old hard drive to a new PC.
