PCmover Express will copy all of your files and settings – all data files, music, videos, email, user profiles, and other parts of the “personality” of a Windows XP computer – to a new PC running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. The transfer experience is fully customizable if you choose; for example, you can de ‐ select certain folders or file ‐ types you do not want to copy to your new PC, or choose to transfer only certain users.
The logged ‐ in user must have administrator level permissions. If you are on a corporate network, you might be a domain user. To migrate a domain user, the new PC must first be “joined” to the domain and you must have logged into the domain at least once.

Some things to remember:
1) Internet connectivity is required for the new PC to activate and register PCmover.
2) Laptops should be plugged in and not rely on battery power during the transfer process.
3) Screen savers, hibernation settings, and power ‐ saving options on both PCs should be turned OFF.
4) You will need to download and install PCmover on both the new and old PC. Then start by running PCmover
on your old PC and follow the on ‐ screen instructions

PCmover Express is available here free of charge from Microsoft. If you would like to move applications as well as files and settings, other versions of PCmover – such as PCmover Professional – are available from Laplink and most software retailers. Learn more about PCmover Professional here. A list of retailers who sell PCmover is available here.
PCmover Express does not transfer applications. Laplink is offering PCmover Professional at a special price which includes the ability to transfer applications that are compatible with your new PC.
If both PCs are on the same network (wired or wireless), PCmover will automatically connect the two PCs and transfer data across the network. Or, you can directly connect the PCs using a Laplink high‐speed transfer cable. If you buy the physical boxed version of PCmover, it comes with a Laplink cable. A list of retailers that sell PCmover is available here.
If you were using Outlook Express on your Windows XP computer, PCmover will transfer the related data, files and settings. Depending on the e‐mail application installed on the new PC, if you perform the transfer first and then run the e‐mail application on the new PC, all your mail and related settings should be import automatically. If not, you may need to do a manual import.
If you were using Outlook on your Windows XP computer, PCmover will move the related data, files and settings. IMPORTANT: If Outlook is already installed on the new PC and you must first perform the data transfer and then run Outlook for the first time so that all of your mail and related settings are automatically imported. If Outlook has already been configured and used on the new PC prior to the transfer, the data transferred from your old PC will be copied to a different profile (i.e., different .PST file) on your new PC.

Performing an “in ‐ place upgrade” may not be ideal for your computer. Be sure to consider all of the details first. If you decide to do this, PCmover Windows Upgrade Assistant makes it easy to keep all your files, setting, user profiles, personalization, and even applications which are compatible with your new operating system. And, it’s the only way to perform an in ‐ place upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. No, but you can use PCmover Image & Drive Assistant to perform a complete transfer from an old hard drive (or an “image” of an old hard drive) to a new PC. It will transfer all selected programs, files, and settings from an image or hard drive to a new PC without overwriting anything, leaving the Windows operating system on the new PC unchanged.
