How to Determine the IP Address on a Computer

How do I find the IP Address of my computer?

 

SOLUTION

For computers running Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

  2. In the Open box, type CMD and press Enter.

  3. At the DOS prompt, type IPCONFIG /ALL and press Enter .

  4. The IP information for all adapters will be displayed. Locate the appropriate network adapter and record the IP address.
    Hint: The network adapter you are looking for depends on the type of connection. For example, broadband Internet access is usually obtained through an Ethernet adapter. The sample image below shows an Ethernet adapter as well as the Laplink Serial Network Adapter (which is used with PCSync). Notice that both adapters can have separate IP addresses.




For computers running Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run .

  2. In the Open box, type WINIPCFG and press Enter.

  3. The IP Configuration dialog box will appear. Click the down arrow in order to select the appropriate network adapter, and record the IP address.
    Hint: The network adapter you are looking for depends on the type of connection. For example, broadband Internet access is usually obtained through an Ethernet adapter.
